Seeing Love
Our love is what makes us human and makes us whole. If we can see that, we can truly change the world.

Opera House and skyline, Sydney, Australia - January 2020
One of the drawbacks of modern living, at least in many parts of the world, is our lack of community. In our series of boxes (our homes, our cars, our work spaces) we are separated from each other. It becomes difficult to form or maintain a sense of community, and it’s commonplace for a tribe to never develop. And yet this is who we are biologically. We are tribal creatures, animals that crave and require social interaction. We can change this, and make it a priority for ourselves and our local communities. Perhaps this simple recognition, and a collective decision to change it, will profoundly change our species and our planet, further pushing us toward a global consciousness. Equipped with our technology, we can retain our most basic humanity while thinking and behaving as one united species. Together, we can change the world.
Tarps at sunrise in Arusha, Tanzania - October 2019
I truly believe most people in the world are good. Striking a conversation with the average person usually results in learning and laughter. How quick can we recognize this very basic phenomenon compared to all the technological innovation?
Chasing waterfalls in Waimea Canyon, Kauai - April 2023
As I’ve forayed into entrepreneurial ventures, it’s struck me how emotionally different the entrepreneurial world can be from the “normal” world. When I speak with friends pursuing their own businesses, there’s always a mutual feeling of excitement and positivity. An environment of ideas exists, and ideas are not rejected but received and nurtured. Plans and schemes are uttered as rapidly and fervently as gossip in “normal” conversations. Participants in entrepreneurial conversations embrace possibility, the prospect of the world looking different tomorrow than it does today. There’s an electric charge that’s reciprocated between parties. One feels alive because, from the grandest perspective, they are contributing to the organization of the universe.
All that’s left is the follow-through, to turn ideas to actions. To pursue. Because in an entrepreneurial conversation, it’s clear: we can change the world.

We’re hardwired to dislike negative feelings. We don’t like it when we feel tired, or cold, or sad or sick. It’s easy to let the sensations take over our consciousness. But that’s not what makes us human; we are also hardwired to feel. And that makes this whole thing we call life completely worth it. Even with some negative feelings sprinkled into life, it sure is one amazing adventure.
The sea off the coast of Thailand, February 2020
I think there’s too much noise in our lives. We constantly move from music to podcasts to TV to online videos. The information overload is real, and it’s so easy to get sucked in. Perhaps our next evolution will be the intentional selection of silence.
Sunset in Galapagos, May 2019
Sweat gets you back on track. It’s our natural tendency to conserve energy, to rest when we’re tired or recovering from stimulation. But when we move and we sweat, the mind clears. You just gotta convince yourself to do it. It’s realizations like these in which I wonder about the parallels between our individual systems, and that of the world, the universe at large.
Watching volcanic activity in Volcanoes National Park, December 2022
Information is tough to trust and tough to know in today’s world. How can us common ones reasonably advocate for a team or side, when every report or interview must be thoroughly interrogated? As the amount of information has proliferated, the capacity for verification has plummeted. It’s unfortunate but yet the reality. So what’s the solution? Is it news abstinence, like I’ve partaken? I don’t think it’s the answer, as ostriches of the past can demonstrate. The answer may simply be to strive for truth, the demand for truth, and to create innovative ways for truth to spread, quickly and efficiently, and trustworthyingly. I believe we can do it.
A section of The Wave, April 2021
Days of rest can be good for reflection on our lives. But they don’t have to be: they can also simply be days of rest. We all get this brief time on Earth together. Some of that can be bettering the world, and some of it can simply be for rest.
Observing the only real thing we all got, the Earth. Torres del Paine - March 2019
Perhaps observations can continue beyond concerts. People are doing their best, I believe. At least most people, a majority. Are you? Are you doing your best? Why would that be so different from the other 8 billion people on this planet? I believe such considerations are the key to unlocking our activation of a better universe. Let’s do it. We can, in fact, change the world.
Walking to the Shark Tank tonight
To go to a concert is such an interesting opportunity to observe humanity. Some are nice and courteous, others are not. But tonight I felt most people were. Even in a purely hedonistic environment, some people considered others. It was heartening. The next step for us all is to grow and retain a sense of global consciousness.
Up for the world’s interpretation
As discussed, an incredibly interesting world. Do we dare to venture out and explore? Implications will always pretend to exist. What about us?
At one point I was looking up at the Duomo in Florence, Italy - August 2020
The world and all its people is such a big place. While you may be waiting at a stoplight, someone on the other side of the world is going on a hike in a lush jungle, while others are waiting in a hospital in the middle of the night. Our minds aren’t meant to comprehend numbers in the thousands, let alone millions. Many of us live in population centers well into the millions, and we’re rapidly approaching ten billion human beings on the surface of the planet. It’s all unintelligible to our prehistoric brains. I chock up a lot of our global unconsciousness to these sheer numbers and the pure reality of our living situation on Earth. But it doesn’t make it insurmountable. And it also doesn’t mean it can’t be fun. It’s a wild world, and a big beautiful universe. Let’s be good to each other and explore.
The mesmerizing cathedral earlier this week
It’s astounding what you see in the world, depending on your focus. I was dismayed by people’s treatment today, and I can very easily focus on that. Or I can focus on the good I see, the good I’ve experienced. We face such a choice each day we live on this Earth. We just have to see the choice.
Na Pali from the ocean
The feeling upon disembarking on a trip is one of excitement and anticipation. The sensations upon returning home are those of longing and peace, and hopefully, satisfaction.
Kauai is an amazing island: beautiful, adventurous, and difficult to placate. There is an incredible array of things to do: sailing, hiking, snorkeling, flying… the list goes on. The “grandmother” island treated us well, and I hope to return some day. Most of all, Kauai showcases the connection between past and present, old and young. It can’t fully be described; it must be experienced.
A moment of exquisite beauty with a red ginger plant while walking to the most peaceful setting imaginable for Earth Day today, the Fern Grotto in Kauai
In many ways, the Earth is treacherous, dangerous, a rock floating in space, uncaring and irrelevant. In many other ways, it is humanity’s harbor, the one place we know that contains life, the single constant for our species. There is a oneness with the Earth, whether it’s romantic or not. We belong here, and we claw for our very survival here. Perhaps there’s duality in that, but the Earth is the only home we know. For that reason I honor it. Not just today, but every day of my life. Earth Day is not simply April 22nd each year, it’s every moment of every single life form’s existence. We are all one with the Earth.
Admiring an astounding waterfall today
What is a perfect day? A perfect day is one that centers around the movement of the Earth and the Sun, one that begins with sunrise and winds down with sunset. It’s doing an unworldly hike with your life partner. A perfect day is exploring a tropical island paradise with them. It’s full of good food and good drinks, containing difficult parts and refreshing one. A perfect day revolves around experiencing all the day has to offer with your one and only Angel. A perfect day can happen in Kauai.
Atop the Sleeping Giant yesterday here in Kauai
I feel I learn more when I’m in a place for a few days. You start to get a feel for the local culture, the local land. Yet what I feel mostly every time is this: we’re all on the same land, on this same planet. We’re all privileged to be on Earth together, right now. We can learn a lot from each other, if we strive to be open. We’re all here in paradise right now right?
The Na Pali coast from the air
It was another memorable day on the Garden Isle. Kauai is truly a spectacular scene. It epitomizes the magnificence that is Earth, that a place like this can exist on a planet, in our solar system, in the universe. Red dirt gives rise to vegetation and flowers on every inch of the island. Blue sea comes rushing to the sand. I don’t know much, but I can recognize a special place when I see one. Kauai represents some of the best Earth can offer.
Astonishing color and texture in the rain today
We’re experiencing island weather today. It’s purview for an island chain in the middle of the Pacific, and I’ve genuinely enjoyed it. There’s different weather on various sides of the island. The day is different depending on where you are. And meanwhile, you’re close to Mother Earth, perhaps closer than anywhere else. Although I’m only visiting, I appreciate this glimpse. It’s a nuanced perspective that can only be gained by staying here. Mahalo Kauai.
